This is Why We Teach!

We just wrapped up our twenty first Home Inspection Fundamentals class (whew!) and I was going over our student’s exit surveys.

Thank you for choosing SOPHI Greg. was a pleasure to have you in class.

What would help to make this class more effective?

“I wouldn’t change a thing. I can’t believe how attentive and courteous Suzanne is, like we were guest in her house.  Even though JJ told students to relate only those stories relevant to the class, the inevitable war sagas emerged. JJ masterfully steered the conversation back to the subject matter whilst still giving people a chance to finish talking. I have a lot to learn, it seems and not just about Home Inspection. Suzanne and JJ kept us on schedule so in the end the sidebars didn’t matter.”  “No other school would have a working office in the classroom. The idea sounds preposterous but what a stroke of genius! After all, we are going to be starting a business and I learnt a lot just by exposure.”

Did you feel prepared for all of the class lessons, activities, and tests? Why or why not?

“The mini quizzes interspersed throughout the day helped to bring the material into focus. The structure of the long multiple choice quizzes molded my brain to hold onto the right answer. I was learning even more by doing the quizzes. SOPHI happens to be located in an area replete with buildings that have every problem we discuss in class. During the breaks I would walk around and find what we had just discussed. The walkabouts with JJ and Suzanne at the helm were invaluable, as were the tool demonstrations and seeing inside his van.”

Would you recommend this class to someone who was interested in becoming a professional home inspector?

“Yes, unconditionally. I would also tell GC’s that Home Inspection could be a way out of the grind and that SOPHI is the first step. Just call Iris!”

Call us, we love to talk about home inspection, our next class starts in just over a month
